Frequently Asked Questions

What hardware is accepted?

We accept both working PCs and Macs (desktop and laptop), monitors, keyboards and mice. In all cases, the machines generally should be less than 8 years old and physically be in reasonable shape. We expect normal wear and tear. In the case of PCs, the machine should be minimally a Pentium III with 256 Mb of memory. Ideally, we ask that you provide working peripherals including monitor, keyboard and mouse if possible.

Do I need the original operating system disks?

It would great if you have the original operating system disks and license. This is particulary important in the case of Macs. However, it is not necessary to have the original disks (see below). Please note that in recent years some manufactures do not provide a set of operating system disks but rather store the operating system on a second partition of your hard drive.

What if I don't have the original operating system disks?

Have no fear! Your authorized refurbisher is here! In the case of PCs we can install a brand new, legal copy of Windows on the donated computer. In the case of Macs, we ensure that all personal data is removed from the machine and use the existing operating system.

What happens to my data?

It is your responsibility to remove any personal data on your machine before donation. If you choose not to remove the data it will be removed for you by us, however, we can not guarantee the privacy of such data from the time we receive the hardware to the time it is donated.

How do you remove any existing data?

In the case of PCs we physically wipe your harddrive (not simply reformatting) and reinstall a legal copy of Windows. In the case of Macs, at this time, we must rely on you to remove your important data. We will make every effort to throughly go through each Mac and eliminate any personal information if needed.

What will happen to my computer

Your computer will be first be cleaned of any existing data, the drive wiped (in the case of PCs), operating system reinstalled, and physically cleaned inside and out. The machine will then be donated to a local nonprofit agency, school or family in need.

Can I get a tax deduction?

Yes! We will provide you with a donation form from the agency to which your hardware will be donated. It is your responsibility to assign a fair-market value to your donation. Check out The Used Computer Evaluator for help in assessing the value of your equipment.

Is there a fee?

Yes. Why you ask? As a private refurbisher we have to cover our overhead costs which include such things as electricity, heating and cooling, cleaning supplies and replacement parts in some cases. You'll find our fees are equal or better than local town recycling facilities. You benefit by not having to wait in long lines and have the satisfaction knowing that your computer is going to help someone less fortunate. And remember, that tax deduction comes in pretty handy too!

Payment is due upon donation. Currently we accept cash or check.

Who do I contact to make a donation?

You may contact us either by e-mail at refurbisher@websitereworks.com or phone (978) 314-1922. Please leave a message if no one is available.

Where do I drop off my hardware?

Please contact us first so we may provide directions. We are located Dunstable, MA. All hardware must be approved before drop-off and scheduled. Please do not show up and deposit your hardware in our driveway unannounced. Also, if you are unable to make a scheduled drop-off, please have the common courtesy to call us. We understand that things come up unexpectedly and are pretty flexible. Just let us know!

Can you pick up my hardware?

Yes, in some cases. We pickup hardware within a 20 mile radius of Nashua, NH and charge 48.5¢ per mile roundtrip. We may also be able to meet you "halfway" if that is more convenient. Just ask!
